- Hey Magnus!
-
- Guess what? I got an Afterburner! :)
-
- And the fitting instructions are all in German... :(
-
- Since my German doesn't stretch much beyond phrases like 'mein Deutch ist nicht sehr
- gut', and 'es tut mir leut aber ich kann sie nicht verstehen' and other such useful technical
- language - the chances of my getting this thing working through sheer guesswork are slim.
-
- Maybe I'll speak to Daniel - but I think he got his fitted for him....
-
- Aaarrrgghh!!
-
- Anyway - some good points:-
-
- a) There is no oscillator on the AB - it steals the clock from the motherboard.
- b) The 68040 is socketed.
-
- This means I can boost my system clock to 50Mhz CPU / 25Mhz BUS and assuming the necessary
- precautions are taken (DMA, Blitter and all that stuff) then I will have a 50Mhz 68040. Even
- if the processor doesn't go this far (I think the current chip is a 68040RC-25) then I can
- take it out and replace it with a RC33/RC40 from a dead Mac or something.
-
- Maybe I'll need better Simms for that kind of speed (50Mhz ram?) but we will have to see..
-
- Speeeeeedy! :)
